Situated in the inner-city suburbs of Moonee Ponds sits this unique and elegant family home that has been perfectly crafted to suit the needs of triple-premiership Richmond FC Captain and Brownlow Medallist, Trent Cotchin, and businesswoman and popular influencer, Brooke Cotchin. Keeping the theme of family central in this project, Brooke enlisted help from one of her own family members, Morgan Ferry, to help in creating her and Trent’s dream home. Morgan Ferry of Morgan Ferry Design has worked tirelessly to bring the Cotchin’s vision to life, that exudes not only contemporary stylings but also family values. Featured in this space is Versilia Marble and Cote D’Azur Marble which work together seamlessly to make for a home that never dates whilst also exuding feelings of warmth throughout the flow of the home.

As part of our Designer Collaboration Series, CDK Stone’s Stone Director Tony Victor took a deeper look into this breath-taking property and interviewed Morgan Ferry, and Trent and Brooke Cotchin. Working closely together on this project, Morgan, Trent, and Brooke were able to talk through their design decisions and how this project came together.

Entering the kitchen, the Versilia Marble demands your attention as it adorns both the benchtop and splashback. With the soft and subtle veining pattern, this stone creates a gentle aura that feeds back into the family values instilled by the Cotchin’s, comfortability and connectedness. Inspired by classic east coast American styles, this stone pleasantly contrasts with the cool blue of the pantry doors and the rich gold of the hanging lights to create an alluring design that makes for a contemporary aesthetic. This energy follows through the entirety of the home and creates a family-oriented surrounding for all to enjoy.

The secret butler’s pantry uses many of the same design elements as the kitchen to create a consistent scheme whilst allowing the home to have a unique quality that feels personalised to the needs of the Cotchin family. The Versilia Marble also features in the laundry to make a simple space more dynamic and personable. Choosing Versilia Marble fulfils the Cotchin’s aesthetic and practical needs by having a gleaming natural stone on display that isn’t as prone to etching or staining which can occur with a growing family. This consistency allows for the space to elicit both serenity and a positive, welcoming energy.

Entering the master bedroom, the small addition of Cote D’Azur Marble for the fireplace elevates the space to a new level of class and sophistication. This small addition of gold, grey and white in the marble helps create an atmosphere of elegance that is unparalleled by other marbles. The Cote D’Azur ultimately completes this space to generate an atmosphere of both luxury and refinement, capturing their personality, whilst providing them with a space to be able to relax and unwind.

Using the same stylings and elements, the Cote D’Azur fireplace is replicated in the study to generate an idealistic and comforting haven. Working in a study space such as this will alleviate one’s stresses from the outside world and allow a feeling of peace in the calming interior. These stylings tread the line between modern and classic by adopting a crisp design that both they as adults can enjoy and so can their children. These small additions of stone throughout the household help in creating a home that effortlessly combines family values and luxury, which any family is sure to appreciate.

The utilisation of neutral colours flowing throughout the home creates an energy that any family is sure to love. Throughout this project, Morgan Ferry has poured his heart and soul into making their vision a reality. The Cotchin’s home is the perfect mix of practicality for a young family, and the sophistication and refinement of a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

Throughout this project Morgan Ferry from Morgan Ferry Design, and Trent and Brooke Cotchin worked with CDK Stone to make this project a reality.
