Once a renowned Tie Factory, this remarkable space has been reimagined into a stunning Brooklyn New York-style residence, seamlessly blending its appealing original features with contemporary amenities and design elements. Rachel Bickerton, originally a member of BuildHer Collective and now an employee she loved it so much, has stepped up her renovation game. Along with the help of Rebeka Morgan, director and founder, and WLKR Studio, building designer, has masterfully transformed this unique shaped office into a stylish and sophisticated home that is perfectly suited to a growing family. Unlike any other on the block, this home boasts a distinctive floorplan that converges at a corner, and so these considered renovations ensure both beauty and thoughtful functionality. The true hero of this space is the Calacatta Verde Marble kitchen island and surrounding benchtops and splashback. This superb feature harmonises the home, creating an atmosphere that captures the essence of a Brooklyn loft while honouring the building’s original character.

As part of the Captivating Spaces Series, CDK Stone Architectural Sales Consultant Olivia Porter spoke to both Rachel and Rebeka about the well thought out renovations to this building, and the different stages and challenges that were faced during this process.

Steeped in history, this building, originally a thriving tie factory from the early 1900s, has been flawlessly transformed by Rachel into a refined three-bedroom home. She has meticulously preserved the building’s original charm, restoring the authentic bricks, floors, and ceiling roses. As you step into the living room, the original brick fireplace enchants, drawing you into a luxurious sunken lounge that further radiates opulence. The dining room continues this narrative, with a wall of exposed bricks that highlights the building’s timeless beauty, perfectly paired with a grand ceiling rose above the dining table. These elements synergise to create a welcoming ambiance, further enhanced by the rich dark walnut timber flooring. These elements all work together to create a New York loft style that becomes further accentuated as you travel into the star of the home, the kitchen.

As you step into the kitchen, your gaze is immediately captivated by the grand Natural Stone island, elegantly adorned with the timeless Calacatta Verde Marble. The large kitchen island dominates the space with this exquisite stone seamlessly flowing to the benchtops and splashback, crafting a harmonious kitchen where the island takes centre stage. The marble seamlessly complements the gold rangehood and accents, walnut timber cabinetry, light grey cabinetry, and brushed dark grey handles, exuding an air of affluence. With its striking purple veining and subtle hints of gold and green, this marble is a masterpiece that stands on its own. The Calacatta Verde Marble unifies the home’s energy, creating a space of incomparable beauty and sophistication, while remaining warm and inviting for gatherings over meals or drinks.
